Lupine, Sage and I are working on some homemade paper lanterns (with watercolor paintings and kite paper) for these dark days of November. (I promise to share the finished project with you next week!) But playing with the paints yesterday reminded me that I've never introduced you to one of my favorite sources for art supplies, Stubby Pencil Studio. (I think I alluded to it here but never shared my source.)

The quality-control I put on art supplies is pretty intense. I expect my family's art supplies to be long-lasting, non-toxic, and ethically made. I expect them to be the best quality. I loathe cheap crayons but love good ones. I'm an art supplies snob.
Stubby Pencil Studio sent me perhaps the most generous collection of art supplies I have ever received and we've been in our creative bliss ever since. High quality water color paints (Really - I can't say enough about these paints. You can replace the individual colors as needed. Brilliant!), fun pencils, coloring cards, and more. I was so impressed with Stubby Pencil Studio that I interviewed them for you and sweet talked them into a giveaway.

Clean: What is your company and how long have you been in business?
Stubby Pencil Studio: Launched in 2006, Stubby Pencil Studio offers eco friendly art and craft supplies like crayons made from soy - not petroleum; stationery, greeting cards, sketchbooks and journals made from 100% post-consumer recycled paper - not virgin trees; pencils made from sustainably harvested wood and recycled newspapers - not dying forests. We also have unique, eco friendly gifts, non-toxic toys, classic games, educational books, do-it-yourself kits, reusable bags, party decor and favors, and many other fun and creative eco products for kids.
Clean: What inspired you to go into this line of work?
Stubby Pencil Studio: When my twins turned two. I looked for simple cards to send as thank you notes for gifts, but nothing seemed to fit. I made cards for the girls to color and I wrote the note inside - everyone loved them. At the request of friends, I designed more themes and printed the cards on recycled paper to sell locally. Having a website allows us to make the cards available to everyone and I found art supplies like biodegradable soy crayons and FSC color pencils to sell as well. The focus was on eco friendly and do-it-yourself and as I find products that my own children enjoy, add them to studio and hope other families will like them as well.
Clean: How do you believe you and your business are bringing good into the world?
Stubby Pencil Studio: We have a commitment to offering quality and earth friendly goods, at an affordable price and it's a real joy to be able to make these items available to other families. Stubby Pencil Studio has grown to become a resource for green shoppers and parents seeking creative products that are unique, non-toxic, recycled, fair trade, educational, sustainable or environmentally responsible. We try to help raise awareness and spread the word that these items are available, good for the Earth, and fun for kids.
